Fascinating! I had no idea there were so many names. The only names i know for them here in Alaska are rolly polly and pill bug! They're supposed to be good for soil; they improve it!

I think my favorite is gizmagagger!

Sawbug graveyard - makes me grin sadistically

On the Oregon Coast, in lumber land, they're saw bugs. Don't know why. They're rare up in the woods. Love to nest around the concrete foundation of your house. Their main function is to keep the spiders inside your house from starving and to make you wonder what you just barely see to be able to spot crawling across the floor in the dark of night.

Oh, saw bugs! That’s a new one 😄

Yes we have a resident spider with a little saw bug graveyard under his web 🫣

I've been calling them Pollywiggles for 50 years or so. My brother called them that when we were kids (I dont know where he found the name) and the name stuck

Awh that’s a very cute name for them 😄

Why do I feel those names are adorable🥰

In Texas I've always called them doodlebugs, but my kids call them roly-polys. Hooray for isopods!

Doodlebugs! 🤩🎉

This poem is just a ton of fun! Makes me want to tickle it and watch it roll up into a ball. :)

😊 Thanks Stuart!

This is hilarious. Well done. 👏👏 I’ve got my own roly poly poem coming out in 2 weeks. Spoiler alert: they’re aliens!

🤩 Looking forward to it!

I call them pill bugs, but roly poly is also acceptable.

“Nut bugs” is unacceptable. Loved the poem though!

🤣 I felt that way about a lot of the names 🤭 Thanks for the comment!

I love how this celebrates something easily overlooked. Sometimes even the smallest creatures reveal how wonderfully inventive language can be. Thank you for the smile!
